What happened

On 30 August 2026, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority said it awarded two contracts worth AED 1.161 billion for the Al Meydan Street Development Project. The official announcement says the scope covers 17 kilometres of roads, 3.7 kilometres of bridges and cycling connections, with completion scheduled for the end of 2028. Who is affected and why it matters

RTA says the corridor will serve Dubai Hills, Nad Al Sheba, Mohammed Bin Rashid Gardens, Dubai District One, Al Barari, and communities along Al Meydan Street and Latifa bint Hamdan Street, with a combined population of more than 500,000. It is intended to provide a parallel and supporting route to Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

The official forecast is for north–south corridor capacity to rise by 18%, while travel from Al Manama Street and Dubai–Al Ain Road to Umm Suqeim Street could fall from 30 minutes to 10 minutes, a 66% reduction. These figures are project forecasts, not current journey times or guaranteed outcomes.

What remains uncertain

The sources give an end-of-2028 completion target but do not provide a construction phasing plan, a lane-closure schedule or opening dates for individual components. They also do not establish how the project will affect property prices or rents.
